Nowadays, we are full of advertisements for miracle creams. On TV, on the Internet, on posters at bus stops. But soft heels and smooth feet can also be achieved with ingredients that everyone has at home. Even our grandmothers used to make similar baths for their tired feet, but nowadays some studies confirm its effects.
Plain apple cider vinegar and warm water. That’s the magic. Does that sound like nonsense to you? Who’s stopping you from finding out for yourself? You’ll have your bath ready in seconds, and then all you have to do is give your feet the rest they’ll thank you for.
You’ll find a whole range of creams for soft feet in drugstores. There are often product sections devoted to foot care, but we forget that there was nothing like it before and our grandmothers knew how to do it too. The effects of apple cider vinegar mixed with warm water have now been scientifically clarified and many experts prefer this natural version to products from the shops.
Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which has antibacterial, antifungal and mildly exfoliating properties. This helps to remove dead skin cells from the skin. In addition, it also inhibits the growth of bacteria and yeasts. It is these that often cause not only foot odour but also the formation of mould between the toes.
In vinegar you will also find polyphenols, which are antioxidant and protect cells from damage, B vitamins, which will help your skin to renew itself, and potassium or magnesium, which are very important for the skin in general.
If you run hot water in a basin once or twice a week and add apple cider vinegar, this bath will provide you with a whole host of benefits. The warm water will soften your skin and the vinegar will then be able to remove dead cells very easily. After the bath, hardened skin is easily removed with a file or pumice stone.
Your feet will not only be beautiful and soft, but also healthy, free of mould and bacteria, and odourless. In addition, the warm water stimulates the vascular system and together with vinegar works as a natural relaxation therapy after a hard day. Your tired feet will get a proper rest.
To prepare the bath, simply mix warm water (make sure it’s not too hot) and vinegar in a ratio of 1 litre of water to 250 millilitres of vinegar. Then soak your feet in the bath for about 25 minutes. You can watch TV or sit at the computer and simply relax. If you have dry skin, you can also add a few drops of olive oil to the water.
Vinegar is completely harmless, just be careful if you have any open wounds, rashes or scratches on your leg. In this case, the bath may sting, but it shouldn’t hurt you. If the pain is severe, you can try weaker concentrations at first and gradually increase the proportion of vinegar.
