At first glance, this plant looks like a common weed. You can find it in grassy areas or fields. The plant has many varieties and also goes by different names around the world. Surprisingly, it grows in a wide range of climates and in a variety of areas. It is used as an herb in Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia. However, it is also used in other parts of the world.

What is shrucha?

You may know this plant by the name of foxglove, foxglove or little bolshie. The plant grows all over the world. While it is considered unpleasant in the US, it is eaten for food elsewhere and is also used as a kind of medicine. In Mexico, it is commonly used in cooking in the kitchen. In China, it is a plant known as a vegetable for long life.

Shrucha is a succulent. It is a plant that retains water, so it can tolerate very dry and hot areas. It can be grown even by a gardener who forgets to water it regularly. In fact, it is a very low watering plant. And why should you grow it? It can provide you with many health benefits.

Health benefits

Shrubs are important for our health. Research has found that it has health benefits. It is anti-inflammatory, antihyperglycemic, antioxidant, immunomodulatory and also neuroprotective. It is no wonder, then, that shrucha is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the most widely used medicinal plants in the world. The aerial parts are used to treat eczema, erysipelas or after a snake bite.

In Nepal, the leaves are used to treat cardiovascular and circulatory diseases. In any case, the plant is loaded with antioxidants. It contains vitamins A and C, beta-carotene, glutathione, melatonin and betalain. Studies show that eating shrubs can lower fasting blood sugar levels and also aids bone health. It is a source of calcium and magnesium.

What to watch out for

The herb contains oxalates. These are chemicals that are associated with kidney stones. If you are prone to their formation, it would be advisable to consult a doctor about whether to include shrubs in your diet. Also beware of the amount of the herb you consume. Shrubs tend to be more salty, so they contain quite a lot of sodium. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before consuming it, as with other herbs.
