It may be an inexpensive food, but if we throw it away spoiled every few days, we are spending money on it unnecessarily. Not to mention the fact that garlic is then not at home when you need it most. So how can you prevent these vegetables from spoiling?
You simply can’t do without garlic
Garlic is literally essential in many dishes. And it’s not just that it adds flavour to dishes. This ingredient is very important for our health. Garlic is a natural antibiotic. It helps with inflammations and colds, boosts immunity. In addition, it also protects the heart and blood vessels.
Khalid Rahman, an academic scientist and researcher from the UK, literally states in his research that garlic also lowers cholesterol, so it is good for people who are trying to follow some kind of reduction diet. He adds that this ingredient also improves digestion and may even act as a preventative against certain cancers.
Why does garlic spoil quickly?
Garlic is a food containing a large amount of water. Once its skin is broken just a little and the garlic is exposed to a place with a little more temperature, it creates an ideal environment for mould and bacteria. In addition, if it starts to sprout, it uses up nutrients, changing its texture and flavour. If stored poorly, it will usually only last a few days. But this can be changed.

After you bring your garlic home, you need to dry it thoroughly. It is water that accelerates the spoilage process. For this reason, it is definitely not advisable to put the ingredient in the fridge, where the environment is cool and damp. The ideal way to dry garlic is to tie the stems in a braid and dry it in a dry, shady place.
If the stems are not long enough, leave the garlic cloves in a wooden box to dry in the same way. Once the garlic has dried sufficiently, it is best to place it in a wicker basket with holes so that it has air circulation around it at all times. Then hang the basket somewhere at room temperature.
