Every generation has its own slang. Generation Alpha speaks a language that looks like an incomprehensible code language to many adults. No wonder. Generation Alpha are children born from 2010 to the present day. They are the children of the digital revolution. That’s why their language is unique. Do you know the most commonly used slang words of the upcoming generation?

Do you know terms like What’s a sigma? Or do you know what GYAT means? Then you’re in a great place. Most of this generation’s slang terms come from Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and similar platforms. Of course, not all of the words were coined by the Alpha Generation kids, but they are expressions that they commonly use in their communication.

Skibidi

This word first appeared in a YouTube series. The videos in the series are really strange. Just like the word. It doesn’t have a fixed meaning. It’s a filler word that can mean just about anything depending on usage. It can mean something amazing and it can mean something embarrassing.

Gyat

It is a slang term used to express intense excitement, admiration or surprise. According to some sources, it is used when admiring someone’s imposing figure. It is one of the most famous expressions of the Alpha generation.

Sigma

A style word usually used to describe a self-sufficient and independent man. The term was introduced by Theodore Robert Beale, who is known as Vox Day. According to him, a sigma male is a dominant figure who does not care about social hierarchies.

Rizz

It actually stands for charisma. It is used to describe charm or the ability to attract someone through charisma. This word is relatively new and gained its popularity in 2021, when it was used by YouTuber Kai Cenat. In 2023, it became the Oxford English Dictionary’s word of the year.

Ohio

This term resembling one state actually means something strange, odd, or awkward. It comes from the mention that strange events only happen in Ohio.

Aura/ Negative Aura

Unrelated to layers of energy. In slang, it means “not cool” or it also refers to attraction. Aura points can be gained or lost depending on what one does. It is often used in comments on social media.

Sus

It stands for the word suspicious. And is used to express any doubt. It became popular especially during the coronavirus pandemic. The word was used in the game Among Us. But the word has been around since the ’60s.

Goat

Goat. Short for Greatest Of All Time. Greatest of All Time. The acronym is used to describe someone who is the best in their field. It is pronounced just like animal and can also be used with the goat emoji. Messi is the GOAT in football.

Fax

Another way to communicate facts. It’s a fancy way of saying that someone is telling the truth. A fax means you agree with what the other person is saying and are prepared to fax it back.

OK Boomer

It’s a sarcastic phrase used by Generation Alpha to mock the older generation, especially Baby Boomers. That is, those born between 1946 and 1964. It’s used when someone older has outdated views.
