The Christmas season is not only about gifts, but also about spending time together with loved ones. It’s about gatherings. About traditions and rituals. And there are also certain smells associated with it. Personally, I associate the smell of pine needles with Christmas, but also the smell of gingerbread or cinnamon. The smells of Christmas evoke the best feelings. And although Christmas Eve is still a few days away, your apartment can already smell like Christmas. How to do it?
Citrus garland
Do you love the smell of oranges or other citrus fruits such as limes or grapefruit? Then cut them into thin slices and bake them in the oven at 180 degrees. Bake for several hours. It can take up to 4 hours. Alternatively, you can put the fruit on the stove to dry. However, you will be waiting several days. Then use a needle and thread the fruit through the string. This will create a beautiful decoration that will also make the apartment smell really festive.
Scent from the pot
A lovely scent will also waft through your apartment the moment you put a pot on the stove and your chosen ingredients in it. Cinnamon sticks, citrus slices and cranberries can be added to the water. Also cloves and star anise. In just a few minutes, your house will smell like Christmas. If you don’t want to just boil the ingredients, prepare mulled wine or punch. Even these drinks will make your home smell nice while cooking.
Christmas tree
Some of us get a Christmas tree at the beginning of December. Alive and fragrant. Others wait until Christmas Eve and many have an artificial tree at home. Still, they love the smell of pine needles. You can make it quite simply again in a pot of water. All you need are a few small branches of spruce or pine, a few teaspoons of oil, cinnamon sticks, juniper and a bay leaf. You will smell a really beautiful aroma of the woods as it cooks. And it will scent every corner of your home.

It’s a totally simple way to make your home smell like the holidays. Light a candle with your favourite scent. Or better yet. Get one that actually smells like Christmas. Cinnamon, biscuit, pine or vanilla are ideal. Did you know you can even get candles that smell like Christmas gingerbread or Linzer cookies?
Cinnamon
Cinnamon just belongs with the holidays. And if you want to fill your home with its cozy and warming scent, you can take about four cinnamon sticks and tie them together with flame-retardant twine. Then use a paper clip to secure the cinnamon in front of the vent. And the scent will envelop your entire home. Simple and very effective.
Arrangements
You can also prepare the scent of your home using natural products. How about making a candle holder out of real pine needles or simply using it as a Christmas decoration? Choose some cedar or fir branches and add some Christmas decorations, or feel free to add cinnamon and a dried orange wheel. The scent will spread throughout the room. And it will give you a warm and festive feeling.
Essential oils
Using essential oils is also an easy way to scent the house. These can be dripped into an aromatherapy bottle or diffuser. Alternatively, you can also add a few drops to your hot evening bath. Choose a blend of essential oils such as pine, cinnamon, frankincense, orange or rosemary. The oils can also be added to a spray bottle of water and sprayed into individual rooms. The fragrance adheres best to the fabric.
