The Surgeons series began airing in 2005. I remember my parents liked it very much and watched it regularly. And one of the actors who was not only memorable to them was Eric Dane. Although I personally never watched the show, this acting legend got everyone’s attention. That’s why it’s very sad news for me, too, that Dane left the world for good on Thursday afternoon at the age of 53.

“We are very sorry to announce this sad news. Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a brave battle with ALS,” the BBC website quoted a statement from the actor’s family. The actor had publicly commented on his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a year ago. “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as I go through this difficult time,” he said at the time.

He started acting in the 1990s

Eric Dane was born on November 9, 1972 in San Francisco. His father was an architect and his mother was a homemaker, giving him and his brother the utmost care. Both were raised in the Jewish faith. At the age of seven, Dane’s father died, which greatly affected him and changed his personal outlook on life. As an adult himself, he greatly valued the relationships he had with his family, his wife Rebecca Gayheart and his children.

During his studies, Eric Dane played a lot of sports, for example, he played for the boys’ water polo team. He got into acting quite by accident. It was during a school play that he realized that he was attracted to this field, and it turned out that he had a talent for it. That’s when he realized he wanted to pursue it professionally. He started as an actor in the 90’s in small series roles and also acted in commercials.

But it was the role of Dr. Mark Sloan in the TV series Surgeons that made him most famous. Then in 2022, he appeared as Cal Jacobs in the series Euphoria. But fans also remember him from other films, including The Last Ship and X-Men: The Last Stand.

He knew his destiny

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a rare neurodegenerative disease. It affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control muscles. A person with this condition gradually develops muscle weakness, loss of coordination and progressive paralysis. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease. Although the symptoms can be slowed down, the actor knew his fate and knew that he had to fight the disease until his last day.

The sad news that he left the world at a very young age hurt many people. Unfortunately, the actor himself and his family expected the event to occur. “We will miss him deeply and will always remember him fondly,” his family said in a statement, adding that he spent his last days surrounded by friends and his wife.
