Exfoliating is a great way to ensure smooth and clear skin. Unfortunately, it also comes with some risks. Peeling destroys the skin’s natural oils and disrupts the skin’s moisture barrier. Peeling is therefore important for the skin, but we must not forget about aftercare. What we put on our skin after exfoliation will determine whether it will be dry or moisturised.

However, before applying anything to your skin after exfoliation, it is important to rinse your skin with lukewarm water. This will remove any scrub particles that are left on the skin. It is not advisable to use hot water as it will make your skin even drier and more sensitive. It is not advisable to wipe your face with a towel, but just dry it gently. This will prevent microcracks and redness.

Use the essence

Your skin should still be moist after rinsing, so it’s a good idea to use an alcohol-free essence or moisturizing toner. For example, products that contain hyaluronic acid, glycerin, rose water, aloe vera or cucumber extract are suitable. These products can soothe freshly cleansed skin and prepare it for better absorption of the following steps. It is a step that replenishes lost water in the skin.

It is also advisable to treat the skin with a sunscreen to protect it from UV rays. Sunscreen is an essential product and is really necessary after a chemical peel. Don’t forget to use it even when you are not going out, but just spending a few moments at home by the window. It is advisable to choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 30.

You can also protect your skin from the sun with a suitable head covering. If you are going to be outdoors, it is advisable to use a hat with a large brim, an umbrella and ideally sunglasses in sunny weather. This way, your treated skin will be perfectly protected from the rays that could otherwise harm it.

Choose gentle products

It’s always a good idea to choose only gentle skincare products. It is advisable to choose a moisturizer to use after the treatment to keep your skin clear and also well hydrated. Of course, choosing a suitable scrub is also important. It should not contain retinol and should ideally have rather soothing properties.

What not to do after a chemical peel

It is definitely not advisable to scratch, touch, etc. This could lead not only to bleeding skin, but even to rashes or scars. And of course, infection could also occur. Better to use a moisturizer and let the skin peel naturally to avoid complications. And although moisturizing with a cream is important, it is definitely not advisable to use too many products on your skin.

After a chemical peel, a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are really all you need. Retinol creams or products with more active ingredients and irritants are not suitable at all. It is also not advisable to expose the skin to excessive heat after exfoliation, and it is ideal to avoid strenuous physical activity. The reason is simple. Excessive sweating can delay skin healing.
