Sleep doesn’t have to be just a time of rest and relaxation. Bad dreams can easily disrupt its quality, your mind and how you feel in the morning. Do you often find yourself awakened by nightmares? It may not be your conscience that’s troubling you; it may not even be your imagination that’s behind them, but certain types of food. If you want to get rid of bad dreams, stop eating them before you go to sleep.
Nightmare: What is it?
You are driven by anxiety, fear, or the inability to escape a bad fate. Suddenly you wake up, barely able to catch your breath, and have trouble navigating reality. You have just experienced a nightmare through which your subconscious is trying to tell you something. It happens to everyone once in a while, but if it happens more often, it can be a sign of psychological overload. However, experts say that dreams can also be influenced by what you eat.
Don’t eat this before bed
Psychosomatic symptoms such as nightmares and poor sleep are caused by certain types of food, according to experts. These include dairy products in particular. Research has found that sensitivity to these foods, especially lactose intolerance, contributes to nightmares. People who suffered from gastrointestinal symptoms experienced the worst dreams.

“If you eat something that causes you gastrointestinal distress, it fragments your sleep, and fragmentation of sleep leads to more dream recall, especially those that are disturbing,” said Jennifer L. Martin, a professor of medicine, in the study. Similarly, there’s often talk about how digestive difficulties often affect anxiety and how stressful events affect you.
Forget the cheese
Among dairy products, cheese is cited as a contributor to bad dreams. One theory says they are caused by the substance tyramine, which triggers the release of the neurotransmitter noradrenaline in the area of the brain associated with dreaming. Scientists want to conduct further research to confirm the link between nightmares and cheese.
