Michael Schumacher has been bedridden since 2013. For many Formula One enthusiasts that year, December 29 became a tragic day. I remember it very well because Schumacher fans always included my grandfather, who at the time found it hard to bear that something like this happened during the holidays. But now he has been made better by the news that has been leaked to the media. After more than twelve years, the famous racer is able to leave his bed and, with the help of caregivers and loved ones, is getting around in a special wheelchair.

Formula One was not his fate. Schumacher was involved in this rather dangerous sport for many years, but eventually his life was in danger due to a fall while downhill skiing in the French Alps. Although he was wearing a helmet, he hit his head on a rock so hard that he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.

Bedridden

The tragic news went around the world with incredible speed. Schumacher was transported to a hospital in Grenoble, where he underwent several operations. His condition was critical and doctors feared for his life, but in the end they managed to stabilise him.

After several months, he was transferred to a hospital in Switzerland. The latest information from that time mentions his transfer to home care. Schumacher was bedridden and cared for by his loved ones along with doctors and nurses. Until last year, the privacy of the family was very guarded, but now there is information in the media that his condition has improved.

He moves in a wheelchair, needs constant care

Michael Schumacher is no longer bedridden. Now he can move around in an electric wheelchair with the help of caregivers. However, he still needs constant supervision and care. The family is understandably trying to protect Schumacher’s privacy, which the fans certainly respect. Still, it is good news for them that the famous racer’s condition has improved and his wife Corinna and his medical team are doing their utmost to ensure that he can, for example, move between his residences in Mallorca and Switzerland.

Apart from being unable to walk on his own, Schumacher is also unable to communicate verbally. However, some sources suggest that he can understand some things around him. He probably does not understand everything, however, and it is impossible to determine exactly how he feels. The former athlete and seven-time world champion continues to face rehabilitation and long-term care. A full recovery is virtually impossible at the moment, but some improvements may occur.
