While some habits are bad for our health, there are also habits that are good for our health. If you adopt the healthy habits, you will see the difference really soon. You will see that over time you will come to love your new body-beneficial ritual. What are we talking about? Tea. Tea that’s been consumed for nearly 50 centuries. We’re talking about one of the most popular drinks in the world.

Did you know that the leaves of the tea plant contain three basic ingredients? It’s caffeine, polyphenols or tannins and essential oils. Caffeine stimulates blood circulation and the central nervous system. It also acts as a diuretic. The essential oils create the aroma of the drink and also help with digestion. Then there are the polyphenols. As the main polyphenolic compounds in green tea, catechins make up to 30% of the dry weight of the tea leaves. Studies prove their benefits for the human body.

Why drink green tea

Drinking green tea can be really beneficial for your health. According to research, green tea reduces the incidence of cancer and is also a powerful antioxidant. Moreover, green tea has an effect on body weight and energy expenditure. Dulloo and colleagues reported that 24-hour energy expenditure and fat oxidation increased in healthy young men who drank green tea. The experts found that polyphenols can stimulate thermogenesis and fat oxidation.

In addition, drinking green tea extract may also have a good effect on cognitive function, according to some experts. Studies are investigating whether green tea extract intake modulates effective brain cognition during working memory processing. Researchers found 12 volunteers who were drink with green tea extract. The result was that green tea extract increased the modulation of working memory-induced connectivity from the right upper lobe to the middle frontal gyrus.

Green tea and dementia

Experimental evidence suggests that green tea may have powerful neuroprotective and neurogenerative effects that may lead to improved cognitive function. Unfortunately, however, there are not yet sufficient data on the effects in humans. For this reason, a group of researchers decided to analyse data from a comprehensive geriatric study from 2002. More than 1,000 people over the age of 70 took part. Participants completed a questionnaire regarding the frequency of green tea consumption.

The experts then assessed cognitive function. Higher green tea consumption was associated with a lower prevalence of cognitive impairment. This suggests that drinking green tea may act as a preventive measure against Alzheimer’s disease. Clearly, for visible effects to be seen, it is necessary to drink green tea really regularly. It is important to choose a good quality green tea. But then one cup a day is enough. So if you want to avoid dementia, start consuming green tea. It is beneficial in other ways as well. There is even talk of helping against cancer.
