Every day is something special and extraordinary, even though you may feel the opposite. But the magic is in the little things, or in the things that seem unimportant at first glance. There are two events on September 30 that deserve attention. What are they?

International Translation Day

Overcoming barriers between languages is very important as it helps to bridge cultures. This is helped by World Translation Day, which honours all professional translators, interpreters and terminologists on 30 September each year. Proper translation promotes mutual understanding, peace and global friendship. The International Federation of Translators came up with the idea of creating a special holiday. Then in 2017, the United Nations General Assembly officially established World Translation Day.

The choice of the date is not random, but purposeful, as the feast of St. Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin, is celebrated on 30 September. Today he is considered the patron saint of translators. He worked as a priest and, in addition to his knowledge of Latin, was fluent in Greek and Hebrew. He died on 30 September 420 near Bethlehem.

International Podcast Day

Podcasts are very popular these days and interest in them continues to grow. This trend has been on the rise for the last ten years. In recognition of the work of their creators, International Podcast Day was created. The idea of establishing this day came up in 2013, with National Podcast Day being celebrated in the United States since 2014. Subsequently, the celebration spread to other countries around the world, hence the name change to International Podcast Day. More than 100 countries participate in this day. Every year on September 30, podcasters who share their experiences or inspire enthusiasts to create their own podcasts are celebrated.

The term “podcasting” was first mentioned by Ben Hammersley in 2004. A year later, this form of multimedia entertainment was part of Apple’s iTunes, and in 2013 Apple recorded 1 billion subscribers.

Summary

International Translation Day and International Podcast Day are interesting and rewarding holidays. They can capture everyone’s attention, whether you are a lover of languages or a listener of stories. Celebrate these days with words and sounds.
