Each of us has undoubtedly at some time or another encountered a person who has set high standards. Whether in love or at work, they don’t settle for just anything or even a little. Mediocrity? Nothing for them. According to the horoscope, there are three zodiac signs that set the bar way too high.

When I think about the people I’ve been close to, I could name several individuals who set high standards for themselves and others. They are characterized by fixed values, intransigence and insistence on their truth. Honestly? This perfectionism can often feel like pressure and can make other people feel inadequate. What signs to watch out for if you get close to them?

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Anyone who has met a Leo birth sign knows that they are people who are aware of their power and influence over their surroundings. If I were to describe them in a few words, they are gregarious, confident and fiery individuals who don’t doubt their uniqueness. They know full well that they deserve better. Above all, endless attention and admiration.

This is not to say that they are merely self-centered or elevating themselves above others. They can be very generous, but in the sense that what they put into people, they expect the same from them. If you don’t give them the same level, they don’t respect you and you sink to a level of mediocrity in their mind that is unacceptable to them. My advice? If you feel you are not good enough, don’t let it derail you and face the Lions with logic and compelling arguments. They love a challenge and love to prove to themselves that they really are as great as they claim to be.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Looking for a lively perfectionism? You don’t have to look far, you’re sure to have a few people born under the sign of Virgo running around. Don’t be fooled by their breezy charm and cloak of innocence, they can actually bite into you like a true harpy. At least when it comes to trying to show their perfection, which they try to transfer to you. If I were to introduce you to someone who has a really keen eye and believes they’re never wrong, I would definitely point the finger at Virgos. They have what I call a keen sense of smell for the “good stuff”, whether it’s in choosing a partner, a job, or quite ordinary things like a painting for the wall. They believe that it’s not quantity that matters, but quality.

Honestly? Virgos may sometimes appear cold and unapproachable, indeed they very often do, but they do not act with the aim of doing harm. Their almost pathological desire to uphold high standards stems from their high expectations of themselves. What they demand of themselves, they want from others, it is never one-sided.

I know one such Virgo, for we have been friends for many years. We once threw a party, which proved to be a superhuman feat. While she was basing every detail, from the flowers colour coordinated to the cups, I was taking a “whatever” attitude. I didn’t take this as a criticism though, I know that Virgos have high standards for themselves and just need to feel like they’re handling everything with an A+.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 20)

Certainty, order and discipline. These are the words I would use to describe individuals born under the sign of Capricorn. Imagine properly functioning cogs in a machine. And that’s exactly what life looks like for this sign. Their existence unfolds according to a predetermined plan, which they follow to the letter. They believe that only by setting high standards for themselves can they secure a prosperous future.

They incorporate this approach into all areas of their lives. They choose carefully which people they let in. If they don’t fit their criteria, they have no place around them. They demand excellence in their work and stability in their relationships. But let’s pour ourselves some clear wine, Capricorns are not mindless robots who rush only for their own benefit. Although their high standards may seem strict, they are merely using them to maintain life balance and a sense that everything is working just right.
