It’s called golden honey. Why is that? Because it lives up to that name. It is a honey that has a really shiny and golden colour thanks to the addition of turmeric. On the surface, it may look like a delicious sweetener, but it’s actually so much more. It is a complex natural superfood with many bioactive properties that deserves your attention. Yet most people have no idea what it can really do.
Honey is something that virtually everyone has at home. And no one doubts that it can be used to replace sugar in many ways and has its own health benefits. Likewise, most of us know that turmeric is a very healthy spice that we should definitely include in our diet on a regular basis. But what happens when we mix these two ingredients?
Antioxidants and anti-inflammatory action
Natural honey contains more than 200 compounds. You will find vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and various potent phenolic substances. These compounds work together to reduce the imbalance between free radicals and antioxidant protection. A 2025 study reported that honey is an excellent protector against cardiovascular problems, also has remarkable anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects, and helps with effective wound healing.
Regular consumption of honey with turmeric can significantly reduce markers of inflammation. This suggests that golden honey is not just sugar and spices, but is a complex biologically active food. Therefore, it has been used since ancient times in healing and treating various ailments.
Antibacterial wound healing medicine
The combination of honey and turmeric can significantly increase antibacterial activity. For example, a mixture of chestnut honey + 10% turmeric reduced the survival rate of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria to only 4.92%. This means that honey on its own and even more so in combination with other products has a strong antibacterial potential.
The study states that honey can inhibit about 60 different species of bacteria, fungi and viruses. In practical terms, this means that it can help by creating an environment unsuitable for pathogen multiplication, promoting healing and dampening inflammation. Historically, honey has been used for wound healing for thousands of years, from ancient Egypt to traditional Chinese medicine.

Honey contains so-called fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which act as prebiotics. What does this mean? FOS promote the growth of good gut bacteria and, for example, in gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines), a solution with honey has been used as part of oral rehydration. This has been shown to reduce vomiting and diarrhoea in children, making it an interesting aid not only for digestive health.
Honey is an excellent food that helps the body in many ways. With the addition of turmeric, it is literally medical gold. And not only for its beautiful colour and shine, but especially for its effects.
