Fashion trends change every year, but it’s not that hard to stick to them. Personally, I always find something that suits me. Some modern things I avoid because I don’t feel like it, but I think everyone does. We can’t all try to be the same. But we can try to adapt to what is worn, at least partially. This year, there are two things that reliably do not disappoint: flared jeans and classic ballerinas.
I’ve always worn rolled-up jeans. When I was a kid, my parents often forbade me to wear shorts even on warm days because “it was too cold”. The rolled-up pants solved that perfectly. Then again, I had a period when I wore colored socks, rolling up my jeans so they would be visible. Last but not least, I’m more of a shorter person who finds any jeans long, so I roll them up automatically.
In the city and on trips
Finally, I’ve come to realise that flared trousers on jeans are actually not only a practical thing, but also a trend. This summer, a lot of people will probably wear long pants instead of short ones, but simply with the legs rolled up. “Don’t be afraid to experiment with the length of your jeans. You’ll instantly create a basic outfit that’s effortlessly stylish,” says fashion stylist Nikki Venus.
Stylist Jessica Sockel agrees with her opinion, “Denim is a material that is having a maximalist moment right now. People want casual pieces that bring them joy,” she explains, adding that classic flared jeans can be worn both in the city and on various outings, and in some cases are not out of place with a jacket for a job interview, for example.

You can wear rolled-up jeans with sneakers, high boots, even sandals. But what definitely won’t disappoint women this year are classic ballerinas. These have a minimalist look and often look very contrasting with rolled-up jeans. And that’s exactly what current fashion demands. Again, you can take these shoes out on the town, to a party with friends, but also to a job interview.
Personally, I don’t wear ballerinas very often, but sometimes they are a rewarding shoe that is simply suitable for every occasion. And I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a situation where these shoes were inappropriate or had a negative effect on someone. So I definitely wouldn’t be afraid of this recommended combination this year.
