Women usually take good care of themselves. Most of them take special care of their facial skin. Unfortunately, many of us forget about our décolletage. Yet there are many simple ways to take care of just the décolletage. This will prevent wrinkles and other skin problems. Did you know that the décolletage is just as susceptible to sun damage as the face?

Welf Prager, a specialist in general and aesthetic dermatology in Berlin, says that the breakdown of collagen causes skin laxity and this breakdown is accelerated by UV radiation. However, it is not only the sun that damages the skin of the décolleté, but also head movements or poor posture. All this can lead to wrinkling of the skin on the chest and neck.

How to care for the décolletage?

If possible, avoid direct sun exposure. It is ideal to plan your activities so that you can be in the shade. Don’t forget sunscreen either. In summer, you really should apply it to your skin every day. And not just on your face and décolletage. Creams with an SPF of 30 or higher are suitable. The cream should always be waterproof.

You should clean your cleavage in the evening. But be careful. Some scrubbing of the skin is definitely not in order. Just apply a gentle cleanser with your fingertips and rinse with lukewarm water. Don’t forget to exfoliate regularly and use a moisturiser. Topical retinoids are also useful to help reduce fine lines. Creams with retinoids are usually not recommended for pregnant women.

Antioxidants for everything

They are inflected almost everywhere. No wonder. Antioxidants can reverse damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin C products can actually help. Also popular are cleavage pads, which are used at night and are made of medical-grade silicone. Whenever possible, protect your cleavage with clothing as well.

Radiation dermatitis

Breast cancer is a tough opponent. Fighting it is not easy. Radiation treatment is one option, but it affects the physiology of the skin. Radiation upsets the balance between the production of new cells and the sloughing off of old ones. This leads to radiation dermatitis. It is a complication that makes the fight even more difficult, but it is up to your doctor to recommend an appropriate solution. Here again, you need to set up a skin care plan that will be suitable for this problem.
