What are goji berries?

Goji berries are the fruits of the Chinese curcurrant plant, which grows mainly in China, Tibet and Mongolia. In the East they are known as ‘red diamonds’ because of their beautiful bright colour. Their composition is rich in nutrients, containing in particularvitamins A, C and E, fibre, minerals such as zinc, iron and selenium, as well as high levels of antioxidants. They are also known for their sweet, slightly sour taste. They are available in several forms, but most commonly in dried fruit form. Chinese curcurbit fruits support the circulatory system, in particular lowering blood sugar levels by regulating glucose and also lowering blood pressure by reducing the risk of hypertension and heart disease. A study has confirmed that it increases good HDL cholesterol levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

Supporting immune function

One of the valued benefits of goji berries is the support of immune function due to the content of antioxidants, which excel in their ability to fight harmful free radicals and inflammation. The vitamins A and C contained in goji berries contribute significantly to building immunity. However, further research is needed in these areas.

Energy and good mood

Regular use of goji berries has shown an improvement in digestion due to the fibre. The high vitamin and mineral content increases energy and stamina. It also improves mood, relieves anxiety and promotes sleep quality.

Although goji berries are considered to have health benefits, their consumption should not be overdone. The recommended daily dose is around 10-30 grams, which is equivalent to about one tablespoon of dried berries.
