Thoughts of the end of the world commonly occur to people. And although it sounds like the subject of a science fiction movie, scientists are constantly making calculations and predictions about the end of the planet. There have been plenty of warnings about when this might happen, but most people see them as just idle talk. One scientist in Austria warned decades ago that we should be on our guard. The human population could reach a tipping point in 2026.

Warning of the end of the world

There have been many reports throughout history that the world is going to end. At some moments people have panicked, at others they have ignored such information. In the last century, however, the Austrian scientist Heinz von Foerster, who was born on 13 November 1911 in Vienna, began to look into the possibility of the end of the world and in 1960 published a study in which he talked about the “doomsday equation”, which he wrote together with P. M. Mora and L. W. Amiot. It was intended to be used to pinpoint the exact day on which our existence would come to an end.

When he shared his revelations with the world, his predictions seemed very distant and irrelevant. But today, we are closer to that date than we ever suspected. Doomsday will supposedly occur on Friday, November 13, 2026. “On that date, the human population will approach infinity if it grows as it has for the past two millennia,” he said in his research.

Will we bring about our own extinction?

The scientist Heinz von Foerster, who worked in the fields of physics, philosophy and cybernetics, warned that the end will not be caused by any destructive natural catastrophe, but by humans themselves. He said that by 2026 there will be a time when “the smart population will wipe itself out” as there will be so many people living here that we will reach infinite population density. There will not be hunger or global war, there simply will not be enough space.

So you can compare his thoughts and current state as the date approaches. Although the population is growing, the planet is not populated enough to allow for such catastrophic scenarios. Indeed, Heinz von Foerster himself faced some ridicule in his time, but he approached these criticisms positively and with a smile on his face. He believed that time would tell. Interestingly, the date that resulted from his calculations fell on his 115th birthday. Mankind has overcome many challenges during its existence and has faced situations that have been truly serious, so it will undoubtedly continue to endure.
