Christmas parties, family celebrations and get-togethers with friends often involve drinking alcohol. For many people, however, it is almost certain what will follow: headaches, dehydration, fatigue and general malaise are typical symptoms that alcohol consumption brings. While Christmas punch is a part of the festive season, it can also be made to make you feel sick. And even so that your children can drink it with you.

There is a solution that combines rich flavour, a social atmosphere and is safe for children and teetotalers alike. Non-alcoholic punch is not just ordinary juice. Today’s non-alcoholic drinks put together a taste experience that you can enjoy without the consequences associated with alcohol. According to experts, removing alcohol from the drink significantly reduces the burden on the body and prevents unpleasant side effects.

Why non-alcoholic punch wins out over Christmas booze

Alcohol is a psychoactive substance that the body perceives as a toxin. This means that its breakdown puts a strain on the liver, kidneys and nervous system. According to the World Health Organisation, alcohol contributes to around 2.6 million deaths worldwide each year and over 400 million people suffer from alcohol-related disorders.

In fact, a hangover alone is not just one tough morning. It is a complex physiological reaction including dehydration, inflammation and a disrupted balance of body sugars. All of which leads to headaches, nausea and fatigue.

In contrast, a non-alcoholic punch, made with fruit juices, spices and possibly herbal ingredients, offers a rich flavour palette without the negative consequences. The modern soft drinks market is growing at a meteoric pace. Its global value is estimated at more than $1.3 trillion. Moreover, it is expected to grow to nearly $2.9 trillion by 2035.

A healthier choice for all age groups

Non-alcoholic punch has several health benefits. As experts report, eliminating alcohol means the body doesn’t have to deal with the toxic byproducts of alcohol, reducing the risk of inflammation, dehydration or digestive problems. In contrast, even moderate alcohol consumption is associated with health risks, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease or several types of cancer.

In addition, non-alcoholic punch can be prepared as a drink suitable for children. It is alcohol-free, but with the addition of natural juices, herbs or spices, which in turn can help the body in many ways. Such a drink can become a beautiful family ritual. And you don’t have to worry about harming anyone in any way.

Rich in flavour, sociable and versatile

Non-alcoholic punch is no boring baby juice. The global mocktails market is worth more than $8 billion. There are a number of recipes from different parts of the world that differ in many ways. Plus, you can easily adapt the punch to seasonal ingredients. If you want to prepare such a drink for Christmas, the winter version is recommended with orange, cider, cloves and cinnamon. All this adds a festive touch to the home atmosphere.

For a homemade non-alcoholic punch you will need:

  • 500 ml of cider or 100% apple juice
  • 300 ml orange juice
  • 200 ml cranberry juice
  • 1 small sliced orange
  • 1 small sliced apple
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 4 to 6 cloves
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar
  • a piece of fresh ginger
  • star anise for decoration

Pour all the juices and cider into a large pot. Add the cinnamon, cloves, orange slices and apple. Start heating the drink slowly. But be careful, don’t boil it, just let it warm up to allow the spices to develop. You can then sweeten the drink with honey or sugar to your taste. Heat everything on a low heat for about 5 minutes. Then serve the punch warm, garnished with a piece of fruit or star anise.
