Tear off a large piece of foil and crumple it into a ball. Then put it in the dishwasher before washing the dishes. How does the foil work in the dishwasher?

Scientists explain that a very similar principle is used in hand polishing silver. The foil, water and baking soda lead to a vibrating ionic reaction that removes oxidation and rids the dishes of excess dirt. Since this is a chemical reaction, not a mechanical one, you really need to crumple the foil into a ball and place it in one spot.

Many people make the mistake of stretching the foil over the cutlery basket. Only then the reaction doesn’t have as much effect. It takes place between the foil, the tablets and the hot water and this trick is sustainable because the foil can be reused.
